Videos of the week!!!
I highly recommend watching these videos at full screen (versus directly here on the site where playback is small). It is simple. To view the youtube videos at full screen, click play to start the video and then click once anywhere on the video. It will then open in a separate window where you can stretch it to full screen.
'If you don't know the difference between table tennis and ping pong, you've been playing ping pong.'
The Greek has finally done it! Kalinikos Kreanga, playing for Greece (originally from Romania) has won gold n the European Top 12. Kreanga has always been amongst my favorite players - I flip flop between he and Korea's Joo Se Hyuk. While always at the uppermost echelon of the sport, Kreanga has a history of 'close but no cigar', often making it to the finals or semis but usually dropping out before claiming top prize. Despite this he is arguably the most exciting and dynamic player to witness, as I can attest after traveling to Chicago several years back specifically to see him play in person. NOBODY has a backhand like this! Also, some great camera angles for the following two matches - a bit different than what we typically see. Nice.
More Kreanga. Here he dismantles 2003 World Champion, Werner Schlager (Austria). Wow.
Table tennis is being played at a higher level than ever before. With the right matchup the points border on what seems impossible. It is one thing to pull off shots of this quality, but another to have reflexes that match. Case in point...
More amazing play by virtuosos of the game - Blaszczyk (Poland) vs. Korbel (Czech Republic).
The Chinese star Xiu Xin (world rank #6) shows what high level training is all about. Want to feel slow? Watch this.
